07Safety

Important safety information

Compounded tirzepatide is not FDA-approved and is not the same as any FDA-approved tirzepatide product. The FDA has not reviewed it for safety, effectiveness or quality.

FDA-approved tirzepatide carries a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors. It is not used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), or with a serious allergy to it.

Other serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea), kidney problems from dehydration, serious allergic reactions, worsening diabetic eye disease, and changes in mood or thoughts. Tell your physician before any surgery or sedation.

The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and stomach pain. It can make birth-control pills less effective for a while after you start or raise the dose; ask your physician about another method. Not for use during pregnancy. Call your physician right away about severe stomach pain, a lump or swelling in your neck, or trouble swallowing or breathing.

Compounded medications are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies for individual patients. They are not FDA-approved and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality.
